RESOURCES

MY FAVORITE MAYA (3D ANIMATION) SITES -

Creative Crash - This is one of the best places to get FREE Maya models and rigs, plus a great place to get help or research issues.

Animation Mentors - Another great site to get limited free tutorials for modeling and rigging in Maya.  Check out their YouTube channel as well.  For a fee, you can purchase more complicated tutorials and sign up for classes.

Animation Methods - I've bought tutorial books from these guys and it's straight forward instruction for beginners.  However, some of pipeline techniques seem a little outdated, but you'll still get a solid instruction about Maya.  They've also got a YouTube channel with some great tutorials.  You can purchase reference material and advanced tutorials for a small fee.  Did I mention these guys are funny!!

Mike Hermes - This guy ROCKS!! I've learned  more from him than I have from a handful of my instructors.  Plus he's a nice guy and his instruction is easy to follow.  If you subscribe to his YouTube channel, you can submit requests for tutorials.

Mr. H - He's an animation instructor down yonder in Southern California, and he posts his class tutorials on his YouTube channel for FREE.  He also posts drawing and character design tutorials.  Very nice guy, just like Mike Hermes.  Easy instruction, easy to follow and gives you links to download files for the tutorials.

James Taylor - He's more for the intermediate to advance Maya user.  He covers basic techniques, but he's got a quick delivery on instruction and is sometimes hard to follow.  But that's the beauty of pressing the pause button and scrolling back, right?!?!

Edge-CGI 3D - These guys cover it all - ZBrush, Maya, 3D Max and Cinema 4D.  Their Maya tutorials are straight forward and easy to follow.  Plus they give you files to download to use for the tutorial(s).

Digital Tutors - For a monthly membership fee, you can sign up for lesson plans and tutorials.  Their tutorials are very structured and well thought out.  You can also sign up for a FREE demo account and get limited access to tutorials.  Happy learning!

LEARNING TO DRAW DIGITALLY (2D ANIMATION)

Draw with Jazza - So, you think you can draw (digitally) and animate in 2D?  Check out Draw with Jazza -he's frigging amazing.  I'm SO thankful I discovered his YouTube channel.  His tutorials cover drawing for 2D animation, from A to Z - beginning, intermediate and advance, and how to animate in Photoshop, Flash and After Effects.  He's fun to watch, easy to listen to and generally provides straight forward instruction.  If you want to take your drawing skills to the next level, subscribe to his YouTube channel NOW.  You won't regret it.

MY FAVORITE FILMMAKING SITES -

LA Film Independent - I've researched a lot of independent film clubs and sites and these guys give you the best bang for your buck (membership).  Plus they are in the heart of the entertainment industry and have connections through their networking channels.  They also provide free resources, which I've used a lot.  Check them out.

No Film School - Great FREE resources for film tips, tricks and secrets on how to make an indie film on a shoestring budget without going to film school.

Filmmaker IQ - Geared towards the independent filmmaker with LOTS of free or cheap resources.  This little gem site gives you LOTS of links to help guide you through your film production - from forms and agreements to tutorials.  Check them out.
